Everything a VA usually asks, answered.
Whether you're job hunting, thinking about benefits, or already covered, here are the honest answers to the questions we hear most.
Jobs & applying
Does it cost anything to apply?
No. We never charge a virtual assistant a placement or application fee. Browsing and applying to roles is completely free for you.
Who will I actually be working for?
You're hired directly by a U.S.-based client. We make the introduction and support the process, and the working relationship is yours.
Do I work for MyVA?
MyVA is a recruiter. We connect you with U.S. clients who hire and pay you directly. If you already have a client, we can also help you get HMO through them, see how benefits work.
What kinds of roles are available?
Current positions are posted on the Find Work page, across admin, executive assistance, customer support, marketing, bookkeeping, and more. If you don't see one that fits, join our candidate portal and we'll notify you when new roles match your skills.
What do U.S. clients look for in a VA?
Clear communication in English, reliability across time zones, and proof you can do the work, a short portfolio or concrete examples of results go a long way. Dependability is the trait clients name most.
How long does it take to get placed?
It varies with how many roles match your skills and availability. Apply to everything that fits, keep your profile strong, and our team reaches out when there's a match.
HMO & coverage
Can I sign up for HMO on my own?
No, and that's by design. This coverage is set up and paid for by your U.S.-based client, which is what makes it real, employer-backed coverage rather than a plan you'd fund yourself. Your part is to bring the idea to your client, and our Ask Your Client page shows you exactly how.
Does my client have to be based in the U.S.?
Yes. This coverage can only be set up and paid for by a U.S.-based client. If your client is based somewhere else, we're not able to arrange it for now.
I didn't find my client through MyVA. Can I still get benefits?
Yes. It doesn't matter how you and your client found each other, any Filipino VA working with a U.S.-based client can be covered once that client sets up a plan. Recruiting and benefits are two separate services, and you can use either one.
How do I bring it up with my client?
It's easier than it sounds. We give you a simple message to send and answers to common questions, so you don't have to figure out the words yourself. See how →
What's actually included in the coverage?
Medical/HMO, dental, life insurance, and coverage for at least one family member. See the full coverage details for everything that's included.
Does my family get covered too?
Yes, every plan covers at least one family member alongside you, based on a set hierarchy. Larger plans can cover more dependents. See exactly who qualifies →
Is it hard for my client to set up?
Not at all. Your client signs up in a few minutes, there's no entity, no payroll, and no paperwork on their side. We handle enrollment and everything after. It's genuinely low-effort for them.
Is my client locked into a long contract?
No. Plans are month-to-month with only a short minimum commitment, which is exactly why it's an easy yes for most clients.
Using your benefits
How do I use my HMO card?
You have two ways to use your HMO: your physical card or the HeyPhil app. At an accredited hospital or clinic, give the company name Homebased Advantage, present your card (or the app) and a valid ID, and you're covered up to your benefit limit, no cash needed for covered services. The HeyPhil app (Android / iOS) also lets you access your benefits before your physical card arrives, just register with the PhilCare certificate number sent to you. Full details are on the Your Coverage page.
When does my coverage start after my client enrolls?
Enrollment completed by the 20th of the month means coverage begins on the 1st of the following month. If it's completed after the 20th, coverage starts the month after that.
I lost my card or something isn't working, what do I do?
Email us at support@myva.ph with your name and the issue and we'll sort out a replacement or fix the problem.
